Yoga Therapy and Cancer: From Survivor to Thriver
This course offers an empowering introduction to the principles and practices of yoga therapy for individuals living with or recovering from cancer. Students will learn how to adapt yoga tools to support immune function, reduce side effects of treatment, and foster emotional and energetic resilience throughout all stages of care.
Through study and guided practice, you’ll explore how to safely design and lead therapeutic group classes for people in treatment or remission, using langhana (calming) and brahmana (energizing) strategies to meet clients where they are. You’ll learn to recognize contraindications, assess energy levels, and apply trauma-informed language and communication to create safe, inclusive spaces for healing.
Emphasis is placed on understanding the physiological and psychological impact of cancer and its treatments—including chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery—and how to collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure integrated and ethical care.
By the end of this course, you’ll have the knowledge and confidence to support clients in transitioning from survivor to thriver—using the tools of yoga therapy to restore strength, dignity, and a renewed sense of inner peace.
